NORDSTROM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Nordstrom will award $10,000 scholarships to 80 outstanding high school students and help them achieve their dreams of going to college. The Nordstrom Scholarship recognizes students across the country for their exceptional scholastic achievement and community involvement.

The Nordstrom Scholarship is open to high school juniors who:
·         Have at least a 2.7 GPA (based on a 4.0 scale) throughout high school.
·         Volunteer or participate in community services or extracurricular activities.
·         Plan on attending an accredited four-year college or university.
·         Plan on applying for financial assistance in order to attend college.

Scholarships, Summer Youth Employment

AKA Scholarships for 2012 - Deadline April 20th

Upsilon Tau Omega Chapter's 501(c)3 organization, Southern Prince George's Community Charities (SPGCCC), offers scholarships to qualified high school students each year.  SPGCCC's goal is to increase the number and/or dollar amount of scholarships each year.  High school students who plan to attend a two year or four year college or university on a full time basis after graduation may apply for the scholarships.  Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and individual motivation.  To be eligible, the students must reside in or attend high school in Southern Prince George’s County.  Information and applications are provided to local high schools.
Additionally, SPGCCC, awards the Sylvia Avery Memorial Scholarship annually to assist a student majoring in Education to continue his/her studies at Morgan State University.  The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement, financial need and desire to continue higher education.

Human Resources Services is happy to announce the 2012 Summer Youth
Employment Program (SYEP) application period. Applications for summer
employment are being received by the Office of Worklife Services (WLS) online
this year through the Monster Government Solutions application system. The
application period will run from April 15-28, 2012. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE
ACCEPTED AFTER APRIL 28, 2012. To apply, go to USA JOBS and search for
"SYEP-2012". Click "Apply Online" to begin the application process. 
All applications from applicants age 16-21, submitted for summer employment,
will be rated and retained by WLS for subsequent referral and consideration.
Placements are generally made throughout June. Applicants not placed by June
30th are encouraged to seek other employment opportunities.  For assistance,
please contact the HRS Customer Service Center, at 7-5627.



We are announcing the launch of LEAD CSI Level III! This four-week program is designed to provide exposure to specialties (e.g. robotics, programming) in Computer Science. Participants will will have externship opportunities with various technology companies. Mentors provided by Google will work closely with students in the program and throughout their school career.

CSI Level III is open to candidates currently in their sophomore or junior year of high school with an expressed interest in computer science. Students must demonstrate high achievement in mathematics and/or science. Minimum requirements:

1. GPA of 3.2 or higher
2. Combined test scores of at least 100 on the PSAT and 1000 on the SAT (critical reading and math combined); or 22 on the ACT
3. Successful completion of a minimum of two sciences and Algebra I with a grade of B- or equivalent
4. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status

Project SEED is an opportunity for economically disadvantaged high school students to do chemistry research for 8-10 weeks at the University of Memphis (UofM) in a Chemistry lab during the summer. Students receive a $2,500 stipend. Project SEED at the University of Memphis is supported by the American Chemical Society Project SEED Foundation and four corporations: Buckman Laboratories
